Breaking the Rules

So I went to the gym and worked out today. It's only been just over two weeks, so I'm technically breaking doctors orders. I didn't do anything too overwhelming, just rode the bike and walked on the TM. I did work up a good sweat on the bike though. It was challenging, and that's exactly why I need to do it. I've gotten out of shape during my surgery stint and I need to get back in shape! I can't wait to get back into teaching with the new schedule. Hip Hop Hustle will be a lot of fun. Maybe I'll take the weekend off, but get back to the gym on Monday.

Busy, busy!

On Thursday, I ran 6 miles on the TM. About halfway through, my chest started aching. Almost like my heart was literally hurting. I decided to walk for a minute or so. I did and then it totally started feeling better, so I ran again at a slightly slower pace and I was fine. I'm proud of myself because even just a couple of weeks ago, I would have just stopped and decided that it was going to be a short run. But this time, I persevered and kept on going the full 6. Way to go, Me!

Thursday night was TK. I had 8 people show up, which has been about normal. I think that 8 is a good number. Yeah, I'd like to have more, but I've got quite a few regulars that show up. I think that having 8 people is enough to ensure that I keep my classes. I would be heartbroken if either of them got taken away due to attendance.

Last night, Brandon and I went for our 12 mile run. It was awesome!! We were able to drop Sebastian off at Ali and Troy's for a night of baby sitting, so it was an added bonus not to have a stroller. Anyway, it was the type of run where I felt good the entire time. I love runs like that. This run was the first that I have had in a long time where I've completely let my body just take over and do the run. Auto pilot, all the way. Next week we'll be in Utah and we're going to attempt 13. I'm not sure how hard it will be with the altitude, but we'll give it a try.

Easy 5

I did 5 miles yesterday on the TM, and it was a really good and easy run. The last 1/16 of a mile, I bumped it up to 8.0 and sprinted. I'm going to try and increase that distance over time. I haven't looked at the schedule for next week yet, but I'm sure it'll be challenging!

I'm getting pumped up for my Hip Hop Hustle workshop in 3 weeks. I'm totally going to rock that!

Show me the speed!

I did three miles on the TM today, and I incorporated a little speedwork. Nothing too over the top, but speedwork none the less. Maybe if I continually do that, I'll be able to keep up with Brandon a little bit better. The fastest that I did today was 7.5. I'd like to be able to get that to 8.0 or even 8.5. I'm sure that I'll be able to do it gradually, but I'd like to build up so that I can do these fast parts for 1/4 mile, once around the track. Tomorrow I'll do 5.

Still truckin' along

Running hasn't been going great lately. I haven't been following my training schedule like I need to. I need to recommit myself. Today is supposed to be a ten miler. I still haven't decided if I'm going to go outside or do it on the TM. If we had a working running stroller, Brandon and I could run it together outside, but ours is definitely out of order!

TK is going okay. I introduced a new round on Thursday, but I only had two people in my class. I was very discouraged, but I have some new ideas to stay motivated and pumped up. I just worry that they'll take my class away from me if I'm not having good attendance. Next week should be better...Tuesdays always are a busier!

More Miles

So I finally got my butt in gear today and got on my treadmill. I completely slacked yesterday, so to make up for it today, I did a long run. I had really good intentions to do 8. I was prepared physically and mentally for the challenge, but at mile 6.5, I got off the ol' TM to see if I could hear Sebastian crying yet. Sure enough, he was stirring in his bed, but not full-on crying yet. So, I quickly got back on the TM and finished out that mile that I was on. So the good things about today's run were that I did 7 miles, and I sprinted the last half of a mile. Good mileage and good speedwork! I feel great now too. I really do enjoy running, especially once I get past the first 3 miles. That's always the worst part for me. Now I need to start hittin' the road for some runs. There's no way that I could run this marathon by training just on a TM. It's cooling down here enough to make outdoor runs completely enjoyable. That will be my priority this week!
